One evening in January in Cupertino...
First off, please forgive me for posting this more than a little bit delinquent. Just over a week ago Anna and I drove down to Cupertino to experience an event far too uncommon these days. Due largely to unfortuante geography and ever-conflicting schedules, the spectacle of a real Jensky family gathering has become rare. But what they lack in frequency they more than make up for in energy.
Here's the photographic proof! The occasion for the visit was a slew of birthdays that happen to fall in January -- Jay (on the end) and Jill's (second from right)...
And the young lady in the middle, my grandmother, who turned 96 this January.
To call it a wild gathering really doesn't begin to capture the sheer celebration of one of our get togethers. You are certain to leave not only with a stomach full of good food, but a sore stomach from laughing too hard. I should note that very early in our relationship Anna survived a gathering. All things considered, it was a fairly mild event comparitively speaking, but still I'm glad to say she's still around twelve years hence. Oh, and if you're wondering, yes, that is a Christmas tree. My mom's Christmas tree, to be exact, dressed up with balloons and made over as a "Happy Birthday Tree." |

Here we are with my mom and my two neices, Bailey and Kaitlin, in front of the the birthday tree. I find it difficult to type the words "birthday tree" with a straight face.
We drove down for the dinner -- it was Sunday, January 27th -- and then had to turn around and drive back, so the evening was over far too soon, particularly because of how rarely we all get together. But the memories are always unforgettable, and until the stars align again and the Jensky clan gathers again under one roof, we've got the stories to laugh about! |
